An elegant pair of Louis XV armchairs in finely carved and gilded wood, marked by Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot, known as Delanois (1731–1792), one of the most renowned cabinetmakers of chairs during the reign of Louis XV and a favoured supplier to an aristocratic clientele.
The armchairs, with their cabriolet backs, feature graceful, flowing lines. They rest on four curved legs carved with cascading flowers. The finely worked apron curves elegantly and features, at its centre, delicate carving depicting a combination of two flowers and foliage.
The whip-shaped armrests are topped by upholstered cuffs, lending the piece an air of elegance.
The cabriolet backrest is crowned at the top by a carving of knotted flowers and foliage, similar to the belt.
It is topped with a brown silk velvet upholstery featuring a damask pattern.
A piece from the Louis XV period, stamped by Louis Delanois (1731–1792) – cabinetmaker specialising in seating – who became a master craftsman on 27 July 1761
