DESCRIPTION +

A fine Transition-period cylinder desk in rosewood with butterfly-wing panels, inlaid with large amaranth scrolls and a medallion depicting musical instruments. The cornice, mouldings, keyholes and handles are in gilded bronze.
The bronze fittings and gilding are original.

Attributed to Denis Genty, who became a master cabinetmaker in 1754 (Kjellberg, p. 354: ‘Both a cabinetmaker and a furniture dealer, he enjoyed a fine reputation amongst a wealthy aristocratic clientele’).
