CHEVALLIER
C*CHEVALLIER
A curved chest of drawers in rosewood, satinwood and holly veneers, with two drawers without crossbars.
The front and sides are adorned with rich floral marquetry comprising bouquets and blooms, set within undulating medallions outlined with fillets.
The veneers, arranged in a curly pattern, highlight the delicacy of the floral designs.
The scalloped moulding rests on four curved legs. The uprights, crossbars and legs are accentuated by rich fittings of chiselled and re-gilded bronze, featuring cascading motifs, clogs, lamp-base motifs and rocaille lock plates with foliage motifs.
The piece is topped with a red Pyrenean marble top, moulded with a ‘bec de corbin’ profile.
This chest of drawers, characterised by its generously curved forms and floral marquetry of exceptional quality, is typical of the 1750s.
A piece from the Louis XV period, stamped ‘CHEVALLIER’.
